A bit of
history...
In
the days of Ceasar, it was customary that when a Legionary
returned from successful military campaigns, a plot of agricultural land
to settle, create a family and finally rest, was donated by Rome
in thanks of his courage and sacrifice.
A number of these Legionaries thus settled in an area of land in the
hills, five miles from the Adriatic Sea in the province of Teramo,
where they created the agricultural settlement of Spoltinum.
The village proved to have perfect soil and climate for producing
those mediterranean products Italy has become famous for, such as tomatoes,
olives for oil and grapes for wine.
More than two thousand years have passed, and although some of the
techniques have changed, the climate, soil and the strains of some of
the original species of excellent plants have remained.
There are still olive trees hundreds of years old that still produce
the same natural, tasty olives that the Romans used to produce the
precious olive oil for which they are famed.
In the memory of those Legionaries, we have produced FLAVUS
SALUTIS (yellow of health), a blend of oil from the same
species of hand-picked olives of our Roman forebearers.
Flavus Salutis Extra Virgin olive oil is produced entirely from estate-grown
organic olives, and is ideal for use with pasta, cheese, fish,
meats and salads.
